The setup is 95% of the work when performing a takedown or throw. We keep it very simple in Chimera. There are only two entries and this lesson explains them in full.
Watch this one first!
2 - Atama Otoshi
(Head Drop / Can Opener)
This throw is not very technical and is very easy to pull off under pressure. Remember, where the head goes.... the body follows.
Rear Angle Entry
3 - Ashi Makikomi
(Head Whip / Key Turn)
Learn how to perform this throw from a front hold or choke. Don't forget, you can also do this one against strikes. This time we are turning the head instead of lifting it.
Rear Angle Entry
4 - Ashi Otoshi (Leg Turn/Drop)
This one is a little different. Instead of attacking Leverage Zone 1 we are going after Zone 3 by utilizing the knee. This is a "go-to" for many of our Level 1 students due to it's simplicity and effectiveness.
Rear Angle Entry
5 - Hip Throw (Rear Head Lock)
Although this throw is performed in a very specific situation the principles learned in this lesson can be applied to many different holds and throws.
Rear Angle Entry
6 - Tai Otoshi (Body Drop)
This is a very technical but very devastating throw. Excellent way to end an encounter quickly. end effectively. Go slow until both you and your partner adjust to the timing of the fall.
Forward Angle Entry
7 - O Goshi (Big Hip Throw)
You will be learning this one from both a strike and a rear hold/choke. This is a high altitude throw so go slow until you and your partner are comfortable with the fall.
Forward Angle Entry
8 - Seoi Nage (Shoulder Throw)
You will be learning this one from another Rear Head Lock. Don't forget, you can use this against strikes as well. This is one of only 2 high altitude throws we learn in level 1. Take care of your partner, this is a fun throw.
Forward Angle Entry
9 - Ashi Otoshi (Circle Throw)
This throw is not very technical and is extremely practical and useful under pressure. This throw is a true combination of all leverage zones.
